A light cream for sticky Indian summers

A light cream for sticky Indian summers

In Mumbai in May, or Chennai almost any month, the idea of putting cream on your skin feels wrong. You're already sticky. So most of us skip it, and by evening our skin feels tight after the third face wash of the day.

You still need one. Just a lighter one.

Why skin still gets dry in humid weather

  • We wash more. Sweat means more showers and more face washes, and each one strips a little moisture.
  • AC dries the air in the office, the car and the bedroom.
  • Sun leaves skin feeling hot and tight.

What "light" means

A light moisturiser sinks in within a minute and doesn't leave a film. Creams, which are mostly water with a little oil, do this best. They give back moisture without the heavy, greasy feel of a winter cream.

Aloe and coconut: an old pairing

Aloe vera has been in Indian homes forever; plenty of us had a pot of it on the balcony. Its gel feels cool and gives skin a quick drink. Coconut keeps skin soft. Together, as a cream, they do the job without the stickiness.

Our Aloe Coconut Cream is exactly that: aloe vera, coconut, vitamin E and a soft ylang-ylang scent, in a light cream for face, body and frizzy ends.

How to use it in summer

  1. After a shower, on slightly damp skin. Damp skin takes moisture in better.
  2. Use a small amount. A cream spreads further than you think.
  3. Keep the jar in the fridge on very hot days. It feels lovely cold.
  4. A dab on frizzy hair ends tames them on humid days.
  5. Patch test on your inner arm before first use, as with any new product.

Pair it with

The Hair & Skin Pair combo gives you Aloe Coconut for skin and Damage Repair for your hair wash days.
