The ritual
The Sunday champi
Warm a little
Rest the bottle in warm water for two minutes.
Scalp, then lengths
A few drops on the scalp, then work the rest down to the ends.
Wait, then wash
At least 30 minutes, or overnight. Wash with a mild shampoo.
What's inside, and why
Kalonji, by its old name
Upakunchika is what Ayurvedic texts call kalonji, the black seed in your achaar. Pranavahi is the oil we built around it.
Onion seed oil (kalonji)
The hero. Pressed from the same black seeds you temper dal with.
Cold-pressed coconut oil
The champi oil most of us grew up with.
Sweet almond oil
Softens and adds shine to dry lengths.
Rosemary & lavender
For the scalp and a clean, herby smell.
Vitamin E
Helps keep the oil fresh.

Before you buy
Does it smell of kalonji?
Mildly. Rosemary and lavender soften it.
Can I leave it overnight?
Yes. Put an old towel on the pillow.
How soon will I see a difference?
Softer hair after the first wash. Give it a few weeks of regular use for the rest.
Muladhara or Pranavahi?
Pranavahi if your lengths are dry and rough. Muladhara if your scalp is dry or itchy.
